| Acinetobacter| Acinetobacter Brisou and Prevot 1954
Hospital-Acquired Infections: Certain species of Acinetobacter, such as Acinetobacter baumannii, have been associated with healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). These bacteria can survive on surfaces and medical equipment and may cause infections in individuals with compromised immune systems, especially those in hospitals or other healthcare facilities.
Antibiotic Resistance: Acinetobacter species are known for their ability to develop antibiotic resistance, making treatment challenging. Multi-drug resistant strains, including carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB), have become a significant concern in healthcare settings. This resistance can limit the available treatment options and contribute to the severity of infections.
Types of Infections: Acinetobacter infections can manifest as pneumonia, bloodstream infections, urinary tract infections, and wound infections. Respiratory tract infections, especially ventilator-associated pneumonia, are commonly associated with Acinetobacter baumannii.
Vulnerable Populations: Individuals at higher risk for Acinetobacter infections include those with compromised immune systems, severe underlying medical conditions, and those who have undergone invasive medical procedures or surgeries.

Different labs use different software to read the sample. See this post for more details.
One lab may say you have none, another may say you have a lot! - This may be solely due to the software they are using to estimate.
We deem lab specific values using values from the KM method for each specific lab to be the most reliable.
