Tuberculosis (TB): Mycobacterium tuberculosis is the primary pathogen responsible for tuberculosis. TB is a potentially serious infectious disease that primarily affects the lungs but can also affect other parts of the body. It is transmitted through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes, and symptoms include cough, weight loss, fatigue, and fever. TB can be a chronic condition and may require long-term antibiotic treatment.
Nontuberculous Mycobacterial (NTM) Infections: Some mycobacteria other than Mycobacterium tuberculosis can cause infections known as nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) infections. These infections typically affect the lungs but can also involve other body parts, such as the skin and lymph nodes. Individuals with compromised immune systems or pre-existing lung conditions may be more susceptible to NTM infections.
Skin Infections: Certain mycobacterial species can cause skin infections, leading to conditions such as nodules, ulcers, and abscesses. Mycobacterium marinum, for example, is known to cause skin infections in humans, often associated with exposure to contaminated water.
Systemic Infections in Immunocompromised Individuals: In individuals with weakened immune systems, such as those with HIV/AIDS or undergoing immunosuppressive therapy, mycobacteria can cause systemic infections that may involve multiple organs and systems.

Different labs use different software to read the sample. See this post for more details.
One lab may say you have none, another may say you have a lot! - This may be solely due to the software they are using to estimate.
We deem lab specific values using values from the KM method for each specific lab to be the most reliable.
